What to Bring? Plan for Comfort |
| The daytime weather at COPPERSTATE can range from the
cool upper 60's and lower 70's with wind and occasional rain to the
upper 90's and clear skies. It is important to dress accordingly and
be prepared for any weather condition.
Sun-safe habits include wearing sunglasses that provide 99 to 100 percent
of UVA and UVB protection, wearing a hat with a wide brim offers good
sun protection for eyes, ears, face, and the back of the neck - areas
particularly prone to sun exposure, and always applying a sunscreen of
at least 15 SPF before going outside.
WATER Bring plenty of water to keep hydrated. The desert sun and dry air accelerate dehydration. SUNSCREEN Bring more than you think you will need as you can never have too much. Put sunscreen on before going out into the sun. Put sunscreen on bald/ing areas as well as the part in your hair. Put sunscreen on your ears! Put sunscreen on your feet when wearing open shoes! LIP BALM The best kind has sunscreen. Continually use high SPF lip balm on your lips, nose, and upper cheeks. HAT Wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect from the direct rays of the sun on your head and your neck. SUNGLASSES Wear sunglasses that provide 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB protection. COMFORTABLE SHOES There will be miles of planes to see and vendors to visit. Make sure your shoes are comfortable and broken in to avoid blisters. You will be doing a lot of walking. COMFORTABLE CLOTHING Wear loose-fitting, light colored clothing to protect from the direct rays of the sun. Long sleeve shirts and comfortable long pants are the best. SWEATSHIRT OR JACKET Occasionally, it gets cold and even rains. Bring a sweatshirt or jacket to provide protection and warmth. UMBRELLA Although it may rain, an umbrella is great for creating your own portable shade and to stay out of the sun. PORTABLE CHAIR Fold-up canvas chairs are lightweight and super for tired feet after a long day of walking the flight line. EAR PLUGS It can get pretty noisy along the flightline. Bring ear plugs to protect your hearing when the "big iron" taxies by. CAMERA/FILM/VIDEO TAPE/FLASH MEMORY COPPERSTATE memories are best preserved on film, video tape, or flash memory. Don't forget your camera! Don't forget the film, video tape, or flash memory also. Always have extra. BATTERIES Bring enough of all of the types of batteries for your cameras, radios, and other equipment. It may be tough to find a specialized camera battery should yours run down. CELLULAR PHONE Phone companies are cutting back on portable payphone support at events due to the proliferation of cellular phones. Don't forget your cellular phone - and the charger. MONEY Like all events, things cost money. T-shirts, food, admission, and all of the great stuff at the fly market all cost money. Make sure you bring enough to cover your planned purchases and a little extra. FIRST AID KIT This could be your most important comfort item of them all. Make sure to have bandages, anti-bacterial ointment, and your preferred pain killer (aspirin, ibuprophen, acetaminophen, etc.). Don't forget cold medicine, antihistamine, and other remedies for sickness or allergies. Most of all, don't forget your prescription medicine. PRESCRIPTION EYE GLASSES/CONTACT LENSES Make sure to pack your prescription eye glasses and extra contact lenses. You don't want to miss seeing any of the great airplanes! |
